Have you ever made an IMPACT?

Bonjour!

So here's an update on my last Friday night! It was an event hosted by UNICEF & Free The Children, Carleton University's two of the most well-known philanthropic organisations on campus :) A few days prior to the event, I was given the opportunity to design the poster & ticket. What do you think?

I made use of Photoshop, & spent about 2-3 hours creating them! Although it was really tiring (with my eyes super strained by the end), I'm still glad I got this chance to improve on my designing and creativity skills. Can't express how much I love art!

Anyway, on the day itself, I arrived a little earlier to help out for set ups. I was in school earlier for hours of classes so till then, I was already pretty tired to be pumped up for something like this. But I survived, thankfully. I also had the chance to create a PREZI presentation for UNICEF & I'm glad it turned out well. Except the fact that the video wasn't working because we didn't have the original file located in the folder to be used.. We downloaded a new one but it wouldn't work because the file was too big and we didn't have time to fix up everything because the event was already starting :( I was quite disappointed that the speakers weren't working too! A perfectionist like me can't handle these glitches. But it was alright, I guess. My apologies to UNICEF.

After the UNICEF presentation, it was of course, my favourite part. DINNER TIME (yay!)
So I sat @ table 6, with my lovely date, Alex & a few other girl volunteers from UNICEF. Also, not to forget, my lovely ex-roommate Michelle, Director of Volunteers & Sustainability, who was busy running around making sure everything was alright! So much love for that girl <3

It was a 3-course meal, but I had to leave early because Alex worked the next morning, so we only got to get a 2-course meal- which I was pretty frustrated about hehehe because.. Who doesn't want desserts?! But it's alright I guess, it was pretty late & dark out, and I didn't have a car to drive home with so.. Thankfully the salad and main course were delicious!

Butter bread & Caesar salad.

The oh-so-delicious chicken breast covered parsley rice with cream of mushroom dressing, the most delicious baked-potatoes I've ever had, and some greens.

.. You cannot believe it. I actually finished the entire plate. I literally felt like a pregnant superwoman.

Wishes for the event.
p.s. Realized I made a mistake on the lyrics but I guess it made sense too haha!

Fruit Punch.

Alex & I.
For some reason... My eyes always look small in photos. Or maybe they are really small. *Dislikes.

Lastly, my favourite photo of the night & favourite selfie as of now too :)
Thanks for being there with me, in everything ♥

So yeah! I guess that's it about the food part. In between dinner were a bunch of speeches by other organisations that we invited to the event- OxFam, Engineers Without Borders and World University Service of Canada; which were all very inspiring by the way. Do check them out online if you can! Also, there was a dance floor at the end (that lasted till midnight, apparently), but I wasn't there so I don't have any updates on that but I'm pretty sure it was fun :)

That concluded my night and I guess overall, it was alright for me as I was pretty tired & there wasn't really anything fancy about it. Wished it started earlier & that I spent more time with other people, but it's alright :) It's all for a great cause, so it's all goooood!

Proceeds from this event will go to buying water pumps for communities that need them (by UNICEF)
If you wanna help individually, you can go to http://tap.unicefusa.org/ to be part of this!

10 minutes without touching your phone = water access for communities for a day!

This is why Asians are amazing

Hello hello!

So..... My group did a marketing presentation on Google Glass this morning @ about 9:15am, & we did well so yay! Headed off to our last, very short Statistics tutorial after and decided to dine-out (lunch) to celebrate having done all the past assignments/presentations/projects so far! It's almost the end of the semester and all we have left is one Sociology paper to write and... finals, in April, to end my sophomore year.

After contemplating for a very long time, Alex and I have decided to go to this all-you-can-eat place called Fusion House, located at 1947 Bank Street, Ottawa, ON. Before that, I went on UrbanSpoon to check out reviews, pricings, et al, but have came upon a lot of bad reviews for its service and the so-so food. Despite that, we decided to go because it was $15 (AYCE) & that the other dim-sum place that we wanted to go was pretty much high class and more expensive.

Thankfully, there weren't a lot of people since it's a Thursday afternoon, we got to our seats and had our orders served to us really quickly. To be honest, it's nothing like the reviews. The food was AMAZING.... Both of us couldn't stop ordering (we were so full!!) & had never complained about anything because everything was just so good :') Ahh, what a nice, relaxed lunch. Those reviewers probably went at the wrong time with many people and few employees, but if you choose your time wisely, I would STRONGLY suggest going to this restaurant. Worth every penny (.. not that pennies exist anymore hehe but still)! Do trust my opinion, I'm an Asian ^^

& oh, haha. It was funny because I bumped (well not really) into an officer- En. Umarddin from the Malaysian embassy in Ottawa. My back was facing him so I didn't think he saw me/recognized me but oh well, at least he didn't have to see me on my date... That'd be awkward.

Unfortunately, we missed our bus after dinner lunch, so we had to take a 10-minute walk to Greenboro bus station. Although it was snowing heavily (urgh), it was still a nice walk as our tummies were pretty much bloated!

Now now, no matter where you are in the world, if you don't like seeing food photos during midnight, I suggest you leave this blog as you finish off this sentence. If not, enjoy the food! :)

Everything is beautiful

End of another week. Time flies too fast when you're in university! 1 more month, and I'll be done my sophomore year. Unbelievable.

Had a pretty productive day today. Although it was nice to stay home, I wished I was out for some fresh air! To be honest, I'm actually loving the warm-cold breeze, but Spring still needs to come. Spring with flowers, not snowflakes 🌸🍃

... That aside, our house needs better sound proof.

Anyway, I went over to Alex's last night, and woke up to a snow storm Spring. Disappointed, but I got to eat his breakfast this morning! Yoohoo! My man cooks the best breakfast ever <3 Thank you Cora's, for making him a better cook hehe.

International Happiness Day

What else better than spending your first day of Spring (2014) with good food and your loved one?

<Pho Thu Do Restaurant>
781 Somerset Street, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

**

It's a fact. There's no Spring in Ottawa. Big sigh.
First it rained in the morning, then it snowed in the afternoon.

International Happiness Day it is....
(if you aren't sure why and what's it about: http://www.dayofhappiness.net/#context)

That aside, today was actually pretty good! Lunch was for sure the highlight! Didn't order Pho this time because I wanted something new, so I had this dry vermicelli dish called Bún with grilled pork and spring rolls. Mmmmm, they were perfect!

$10.50, but considering its size (medium) and the deliciousness, it was worth it! Definitely worth a try!
Ended up staying in the restaurant drinking tea and chatting; nice relaxation time it was.
